Gyeonggi-do, South Korea's largest provincial-level autonomous government, ranks first in the country in Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP), economically active population, and total population. In September 2025, Gyeonggi-do and the Chongqing Municipal People's Government signed a Memorandum of Understanding for Friendship and Cooperation, cementing a sister-city relationship and further deepening pragmatic collaboration across diverse fields.

• With the full deployment of the Great Train eXpress (GTX) network, travel time between Seoul and Gyeonggi-do's principal cities is set to be dramatically reduced to a mere 15 to 30 minutes.
