Wanzhou Signs Three Major Projects Totaling RMB10 Billion at WCIFIT!

On May 23, the Wanzhou District of Chongqing announced the successful signing of three major projects at the 7th Western China International Fair for Investment and Trade (WCIFIT), with a total investment of RMB10 billion. These projects span the power/thermal energy supply and food processing sectors, injecting robust momentum into regional high-quality development. Among them, a 9-billion-yuan integrated energy development project will construct two 1,000-MW ultra-supercritical coal-fired power generation units along with supporting port facilities. It will also include desulfurization and denitrification systems (meeting standards below ultra-low emissions) and a 500,000-ton coal storage yard, aiming to build an efficient and clean energy supply system. The 500-million-yuan second-phase cogeneration project in Chongqing Wanzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone's Jiulong Park will add an 800-ton high-temperature, ultra-high-pressure coal-fired boiler and an 80-MW extraction back-pressure power generation unit. This initiative will enhance the park's energy infrastructure, providing stable and efficient energy support for industrial enterprises and boosting the park's industrial competitiveness. Another 500-million-yuan project focuses on comprehensive rice utilization and grain/oil processing. It will establish production lines for rice and rapeseed processing, along with supporting storage, logistics, and trade facilities. This project will advance deep processing of Wanzhou's high-quality agricultural products, promote full-industry-chain development, and increase agricultural efficiency and farmers' incomes. In recent years, Wanzhou District has prioritized industrial strength as a cornerstone of high-quality development, continuously optimizing its business environment. By focusing on industrial upgrading, smart technologies, and green transformation, the district has driven innovation-led development of new productive forces. It has steadily expanded three pillar industries - advanced materials, food/agricultural processing, and intelligent equipment/manufacturing - as well as two distinctive sectors: pharmaceutical/chemicals and new energy, accelerating the establishment of a modern industrial system. "These three newly signed projects will further enhance the clustered and chained development of Wanzhou's three pillar industries and two distinctive sectors, elevating their high-end, smart, and green capabilities," said a spokesperson from the Wanzhou Commerce Commission. On the afternoon of May 22, the Supply and Purchase Matchmaking Event of Chinese Automotive and Motorcycle Brands into the African Market, a key thematic event of the 7th WCIFIT, was successfully held. During the event, the Chongqing Municipal Commerce Commission and the China-Africa Business Council signed a memorandum of understanding on enhancing economic and trade exchanges and cooperation with Africa. Three Chongqing-based enterprises signed project agreements with companies from Nigeria, Rwanda and Kenya, totaling RMB1.65 billion in contract value. The agreements primarily cover projects related to automotive and motorcycle assembly, as well as supporting components. The matchmaking event also released two authoritative reports. Among them, the Digital Talent Committee of the UNIDO Fourth Industrial Revolution Alliance presented the report titled Building a Global AI and Digital Talent Ecosystem to Empower Africa's Automotive and Motorcycle Industry. The report highlights that the global AI market size in manufacturing is projected to grow from USD2.1 billion in 2021 to USD16.5 billion by 2028, and the global automotive intelligence market is expected to reach USD14.92 billion by 2030. China, with its complete industrial chain, advanced technology, and abundant talent pool, leads the world in sectors such as new energy vehicles (NEVs) and intelligent connected vehicle (ICV) technologies, while Africa, with its vast market demand, rich natural resources, and growing industrial dynamism, is emerging as a new force in the global automotive and motorcycle industry. Chongqing Modern Open Economy Research Institute and the China-Africa Business Council jointly released the Research Report on Chongqing's Automotive and Motorcycle Exports to Africa. The report predicts that by 2027, Chongqing's automobile exports to Africa will exceed RMB35 billion, and motorcycle exports to Africa will surpass RMB3 billion. The report recommends that Chinese enterprises conduct precision market research, implement deep localization operations, swiftly seize opportunities in green transportation development, and cultivate the African market with a "long-termism" approach. Additionally, the Alliance on Chinese Automobile and Motorcycle Exports to Africa was officially launched. The alliance, jointly established by 11 organizations including China-Africa Business Council, China Chamber of Commerce for Motorcycle, Chongqing Changan Automobile Co., Ltd. and Seres Group Co., Ltd., will serve as a cooperation bridge between Chinese automotive/motorcycle enterprises and the African market in the future. Through resource integration, information sharing, policy coordination, and industrial collaboration, it will provide services such as market research, policy interpretation, and business matchmaking. These initiatives aim to reduce overseas expansion costs and enhance market competitiveness for enterprises. At the matchmaking event, representatives from governments and enterprises of both China and Africa engaged in vibrant discussions under the theme "New Era for Automotive and Motorcycle Brands 'Leaping into Africa'", sharing insightful perspectives and exploring new opportunities for industrial cooperation between China and Africa in the automotive and motorcycle sectors. Participants from China and abroad unanimously acknowledged that the matchmaking event provided think-tank analyses to decode industry trends, facilitated practical experience-sharing, addressed AI and digital talent ecosystem development, and highlighted supply chain finance solutions. Through a systematic approach, the event mapped out a roadmap for the China-Africa automotive and motorcycle industry to transition from "trade-oriented exports" to "ecosystem-based exports". The event witnessed the signing of seven cooperation projects between Chongqing and Hong Kong. The agreements specify that Yuzhong District, Jiangbei District and Nan'an District will leverage Hong Kong's strategic advantages to deepen collaboration in three key areas: facilitating mainland enterprises' listings on Hong Kong exchanges, enhancing cross-border financial connectivity, and accelerating green finance innovation. At the event, multiple guests also shared their insights on the theme of "Leveraging Hong Kong's Financial Markets to Facilitate Chongqing Enterprises' Global Expansion". For instance, one guest noted that Hong Kong can provide enterprises with diversified financing channels and abundant funding sources. This approach will enable Chongqing to achieve deeper openness and cooperation with Hong Kong across finance, technology, talent, and other sectors, ushering in a new chapter of Hong Kong-Chongqing collaboration. "We are delighted that Chongqing has invited Hong Kong to serve as this year's WCIFIT Guest City of Honor", said Jacky Chung. He added that Hong Kong will participate in this year's WCIFIT under a "1+1+7" model, comprising one thematic event, one exhibition, and seven specialized sharing sessions to showcase the scope and achievements of Chongqing-Hong Kong cooperation. Additionally, during this year's WCIFIT, Hong Kong will host seven thematic sharing sessions at the Hong Kong exhibition hall, focusing on finance, healthcare innovation, technology, and other key areas. These activities fully demonstrate Hong Kong's commitment to integrating into the national development strategy while leveraging its unique advantages on the global economic stage.
