Chongqing's Total Foreign Trade Import and Export Value from January to August Increased by 11.3% Year-on-Year
On September 16, Chongqing Customs released data showing that from January to August this year, the total value of Chongqing's foreign trade import and export reached 508.09 billion (RMB, same below), a year-on-year increase of 11.3%, which is 7.8 percentage points higher than the national growth rate over the same period.
Specifically, Chongqing's foreign trade demonstrated three key features. First, general trade and bonded logistics import and export showed significant growth. From January to August, Chongqing's general trade import and export reached RMB212.32 billion, up 19.9%; bonded logistics import and export amounted to RMB121.04 billion, an increase of 28.4%.
Second, the municipality's international trade "circle of friends" continued to diversify. During this period, ASEAN remained Chongqing's largest trading partner, with import and export volume reaching RMB88.4 billion, a growth of 23.5%. At the same time, economic and trade exchanges with other member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) continued to deepen, with import and export totaling RMB42.38 billion, up 11.3%. Trade with countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative reached RMB230.59 billion, an increase of 9.9%. Efforts to expand into markets in the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America accelerated, with import and export growing by 54.5%, 33.7%, and 16.6%, respectively.
Third, the upgrading of traditional industries and the acceleration of emerging industries have driven continuous improvement in export momentum. From January to August, Chongqing exported RMB99.41 billion worth of laptops, maintaining its position as the country's top exporter in this category. Automobile exports reached RMB27.79 billion, and motorcycle exports totaled RMB17.9 billion. Among these, exports of electric vehicles, medium and large-displacement motorcycles, and electric motorcycles increased by 53.9%, 86.4%, and 25.5%, respectively.
